10/13/2023

Wow! I was shocked with how quickly the summer months flew by, but I feel like time has somehow been going even faster the last little bit! I feel like I don’t have enough hours in my days. I have been busy with birthday parties and fall fun and the weather has been perfect so I’ve been spending a lot of my free time outside enjoying it.

First off, one of my favorite things to do towards the end of summer is to go apple picking. I know I’ve been saying it a lot in my posts, but there really is no comparison between fresh picked fruit and what you buy at the grocery store. I drop everything and travel back across state whenever my family wants to go picking. I may be bias, but West Michigan has some of the best places for family fun and quality produce. Also, who can turn down fresh donuts and cider?

Second, I am a complete sucker for some good car shows so you know I had to get a couple more in before the season came to a close. The weather for them was as opposite as it could get temperature-wise. The first one was very summery and called for shorts and a tank top. The second one felt like we were already at the end of fall instead of just the beginning. It was only around 45° F and quite windy. There were so many beautiful cars at both–old and new. I have gone to all sorts of shows my whole life, but I don’t think I will ever tire of it.

And Third, the weather has finally gotten to the point where it is cool enough that I don’t need to worry about overheating in the middle of the day or getting eaten alive. Meaning, I have been spending lots of hours at the different parks around me. The fall colors are just starting to come through and the ground is starting to be covered in all sorts of leaves to crunch on. The animals have been more active and the air is the perfect amount of brisk.

There are so many fall activities that I love. I am trying to get to doing everything that I want to. I’ve acquired the apples, pumpkins, donuts, and fall drinks. I’ve put up my fall décor and lights. I have already been out doing some (but am hoping to do lots more) crunching through leaves, viewing the fall colors and enjoying the brisk air. I’ve been watching all my favorite scary movies. I have some more birthdays and parties to attend that I’m looking forward to. I hope, whatever you’re getting up to, you’re having a great fall!

“Go, sit upon the lofty hill,

And turn your eyes around,

Where waving woods and waters wild

Do hymn an autumn sound.

The summer sun is faint on them—

The summer flowers depart

— Sit still—

as all transform’d to stone,

Except your musing heart.”

-Elizabeth Barrett Browning, The Autumn
