Happy first day of spring!!

I am so excited for the new green popping everywhere and the blooms starting. The spring birds are back and the days are already so much longer! It always makes me feel so much better when I can soak up more hours of daylight. While all the cute little bird couples keep visiting my feeders, I’m trying to plan out what plants I want to acquire for my landscaping. I’m also planning on adding some new patio furniture. The only thing missing at the moment is the spring weather. We had some really nice spring weather.. but of course winter wasn’t quite over and right now there has been plenty of snow and the temperature is not feeling very spring-like.

This is nothing new for Michigan. We get the pleasure of ping ponging back and forth a couple of times every season because the seasons don’t seem to know whose turn it is. It keeps you constantly guessing which season you are actually supposed to be in. January felt like October/November. February felt like March/April. March started out feeling like April and even May, but is now feeling more like January. It’s very freeing in a way because you just start to expect any type of weather at any point of any day and stop trying to plan your plans according to it. We have days where it feels like we have every season in the same day. Michigan, this is not me throwing any shade, because I was born and raised here and never planning on leaving because I love it here, but damn is it difficult to never know what to expect.

I’m also excited for all the little baby animals that are about to be everywhere. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the little cuties and be considerate of all the mamas trying to keep their children in line. One of my favorite things to do while out enjoying beautiful spring weather is to find as many babies as I can because there is nothing sweeter to me than the pure innocence and joy of the little creatures playing and exploring their new environment. So often we lose the joy of life in all that life is throwing at us and it’s so good to have a reminder that we should constantly be looking at life with fresh eyes everyday. Watching them reminds me to have fun and not take things so seriously. Every day brings something new and beautiful and we should be frolicking and living life to the fullest.

Since it’s a little too early to have any pictures from this year, I’m sharing some from back when my favorite person and I used to go to Tennessee every spring. I live for a good road trip, but these were almost magical. Getting to explore with one of the most important people to me is something that goes unmatched already, but when you breathe in the fresh, spring air in the mountains and are surrounded with everything coming to life again it becomes like something out of a fairytale. There were days where the rain and the haze made everything seem enchanted and days where the sun was out causing all the colors that were starting to pop out look unreal.

Make sure you’re taking some time each day to find a little bit of joy and magic in everything. I think Harper Lee says it best, “People generally see what they look for, and hear what they listen for.” It’s always up to you. It doesn’t take much to find a little beauty in everything. You paint your life. You create the brushstrokes. Make it magical. Make it beautiful.
