Summer: where the days get longer and are perfect for spending at the pool or beach, perfect for going on adventures and road trips with loved ones. Where there is grilling and roasting s’mores over the campfire, afternoon naps under a perfect shade tree, and soaking up the summer rays. Days filled with ice creams and frozen treats, driving with the windows down and the music up, and blooming flowers with fluttering butterflies. The time of year to take advantage of all the fresh fruits and vegetables that are ripe for the picking.
To me, there isn’t much that can beat the taste of fresh picked berries or tomatoes or corn or whatever your favorites are. They pair perfectly with whatever activities or meals you’re filling your summer with. Fresh tomatoes are perfect for salads, burgers and sandwiches or veggie trays. Fresh berries are great by themselves, in a smoothie or parfait, or in a dessert such as coffee cake or a pie.
Recently I had gone back home to pick blueberries with my family. Blueberries are easily one of my favorite fruits so I look forward to going to pick an overflowing bucket of them every summer. And no summer is complete without making a blueberry coffee cake with some of those fresh picked berries. It is so simple to make and so delicious. If your summer activities don’t usually involve an outing to pick some of your favorite fruits, I suggest you start. It’s a great way to add just a little more to your summer.
